internet connectivity cisco 831

Internet Connectivity Problem with Cisco 831

My network consists of a DSL modem and a Cisco 831 router. My exisint PC runs XP and can connect to any site on the Internet.
I just downloaded the new Beta2 release of Vista and installed it on a virgin hard drive. After install I realized that Windows Update would not run. I set my homepage to Google, which works fine. I get quick search results, but cannot follow any link to another site. No/few other websites work at all.
I tried disabling the firewall and access lists on my Cisco 831 router but nothing I did to the router made any difference. (I am a Cisco CCNP).
I tried turning off the Vista firewall, changed every possible security setting in IE7, turned off UAC (User Access Control), the works... I tried a stati IP address with several ISP DNS server entries without results.
I removed my Cisco router from the mix and connected Vista to my DSL modem and the problem goes away completely.
*** The Interesting thing here is that when connected to my Cisco router, I only have one Network Adapter listed in Network Center. When I connect Vista directly to my DSL mode there are 2 Network Adapters?!? Both are configured identically, but IPconfig only shows one Ethernet adapter. ***
Anyone have any ideas?

This is a known bug. The TCP/IP stack in Vista has been rewritten, and it now has problems accessing the internet through routers that have SPI (stateful packet inspection) protection on them. I'm guessing yours does, as it displays the exact same symptoms as mine did - can access Google, and one or two other simple sites (my site www.timspence.co.uk seems to work on mine for example), but nothing else.
See my thread named "No internet access and SPI router incompatibility" somewhere down this list for more info.
Basically, it's due to be fixed in the next Beta or Release Candidate.
